Improving on convention
Detroit’s Tourism Bureau developed a program to promote Detroit as a revitalized city and superb convention site. Bureau representatives were sent to the headquarters of large corporations, political parties and trade associations where they made presentations demonstrating the city’s convention facilities and offerings. Convention planning prospects were also invited to visit. To keep the Motor City top of mind with convention planners a garment bag, imprinted with the campaign theme, "Where the Wheels Gather" and lapel/stick pins shaped as a Model T Ford were created. The garment bag was suggested as an appropriate travel item, because prospects were being urged to visit the city for inspection. According to the Bureau president, the promotional items were well received and were an excellent complement to the existing presentation and direct mail programs.
